A working guide to thai accounting & payroll in Thailand

Thai Accounting & Payroll can involve different document checks depending on the receiving authority. Confirm the intended use and destination before arranging translation, a notarial signature, or consular legalization. For a review of your specific Thai SMEs and expat-owned entities needing outsourced finance matter, contact us on LINE @THAIL or by email at Contact@thailaw-accounting.co.th.

Documents to discuss for Thai SMEs and expat-owned entities needing outsourced finance may include company affidavit, prior chart of accounts, employee list & salaries, bank statements, supplier invoices, prior audited financials; confirm the final checklist with the receiving authority. Check the current acceptance criteria with the Revenue Department and Social Security Office.

How the workflow runs end-to-end

First identify the issuing authority, the person signing, the destination and the receiving body's current requirements. The necessary steps may include translation, certification or consular legalization, but not every document needs every step. Confirm the sequence before sending originals.

Who this service is for

Individuals and businesses may need different supporting documents. Share the document type, destination and receiving authority so the applicable route can be checked for your matter; requirements can change without notice.

Every Thai company must keep accounts, file monthly withholding tax and social security, and submit audited annual financial statements — even if it has no revenue. We run the monthly cycle for you, explain each filing in English, and coordinate with a licensed auditor at year end.

Monthly filings we handle

  • · Withholding tax returns (PND 1, 3, 53) and payments
  • · VAT return (PP 30) for VAT-registered companies
  • · Social Security Fund contributions for employees
  • · Payroll calculation and payslips

Year-end obligations

  • · Financial statements audited by a licensed CPA
  • · Corporate income tax return (PND 50) and half-year return (PND 51)
  • · Filing statements and the shareholder list with the DBD

What we need from you each month

  • · Employee changes: new hires, resignations, salary changes

More frequently asked questions

Does a dormant company still need an accountant?

Yes. A registered company must still file annual audited statements and nil returns where applicable, or it risks fines.

Can you take over from our previous accountant mid-year?

Yes. We review the existing ledgers, identify any late filings, and continue from the next open month.

When are monthly withholding tax, VAT and social security filings due?

Generally, PND 1/3/53 paper filings are due by the 7th of the following month, and PP 30 and SSO 1-10 by the 15th. Online filing with the Revenue Department may receive an extension under the announcement in force, so always check the latest notice.

When must annual financial statements be filed?

A limited company must hold a shareholders' meeting to approve the statements within 4 months of the fiscal year end and file them with the Department of Business Development within 1 month of that meeting. PND 50 is due to the Revenue Department within 150 days of the fiscal year end.

What is PND 51?

PND 51 is the half-year corporate income tax return, due within 2 months after the end of the first six months. Most companies with a 12-month accounting period must file it; exceptions include a first accounting period shorter than 12 months.

How long must accounting records be kept?

The Accounting Act requires accounts and supporting documents to be kept for at least 5 years from the closing date, and longer in some cases.

What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an auditor?

The bookkeeper records transactions and prepares the financial statements; the auditor is an independent outsider who examines them and gives an opinion. The two roles must be separate.
